Jere R. Behrman, Kenan Professor of Economics and Sociology at the University of Pennsylvania, is a globally recognized expert in empirical microeconomics and development economics, with over 525 publications and numerous international honors for his influential research on early childhood development, labor, human capital, and policy evaluation.

Jere R. Behrman (Ph.D. Economics, MIT) is the Kenan Professor of Economics and Sociology, University of Pennsylvania. His research is in empirical micro economics, economic development, early childhood development, labor economics, human resources, economic demography, household behaviors, life-cycle and intergenerational relations and policy evaluation.  He has published over 525 professional articles and 37 books.

Dr. Behrman has worked with numerous international organizations and governments, been involved in professional research or lecturing in over 40 countries, principal investigator or investigator on over 175 research projects and received various honors for his research, including:

  • Carlos Diaz-Alejandro Prize (2008) for outstanding research contributions to Latin America

  • Doctor Honoris Causa (2011) from the University of Chile

  • Member, U.S. National Institutes of Child Health and Development (NICHD) Advisory Council

  • Irene B. Taeuber Award (2017) from the Population Association of America
